Caloquet

Information

Caloquet is a portfolio that I designed in order to show others what I can do. It is more like a validation than a comment; when a teenager says "I can design websites!" or "I can draw really well!" it is almost an expectation for their "website" to be a poorly organized Myspace page with a cascading stylesheet that isn't valid and for their art to be less than spectacular. I'm obviously not a professional and a lot of my artwork is probably not as good as a classic artist's, but I think it's pretty obvious that I have some skills. I feel more confident with my skill in web design, though it's still fairly subjective. The backend that I do is really just coding the structure of the website in HTML or XHTML, although I have worked with PHP scripts in the past, most notably WordPress. I am very interested in learning how to develop my own scripts and I hope to go to college in order to learn how.

...Caloquet?

I literally combined the words above to make the title. I wanted something original that could also be cool or pretty depending on the point of view. I suppose you could say it means "misty locket," which really doesn't make any sense, does it? It had some meaning to me when I originally created the title, but I can't remember it now.

Man, now all I want to do is google "caloquet" to see what comes up, but I'll totally feel cheated if I do it and find other results!

The Design

I wanted to create a design for Caloquet that would look professional, be easy on the eyes and showcase my work in a clear manner so that anyone could surf in and navigate it easily. The design is inspired by two songs: Marionette ~prelude~ by Ayumi Hamasaki and Illness Illusion by Gackt. I used a key in the theme in relation to the whole misty locket thing I've got going on (see above). The original is called Wooden Key and is posted on stock.xchng.

There is also a pattern frequently used in this theme from 247 Media Studios. I coded this website in Notepad and made the graphics with Paint Shop Pro 7.
